The production plan of the 2018 BMW i8 Roadster, together with two other latest or redesigned versions in its hybrid-electric lineup has been confirmed by the German car manufacturer, BMW. The declaration lays the foundation for the sustained expansion of the hybrid and EV offerings of BMW, which will include the ActiveHybrid 5, 3 Series Hybrid, X5 Plug-in Hybrid, i8 Coupe hybrid and i3 Hatchback electric. The declaration of the production of the new i8 Roadster does not come as a complete surprise.
The automaker has already unveiled its plug-in hybrid variant of the i8 Concept Roadster at the 2012 Auto Show in New York. Besides the news regarding the new model i8 Roadster, the automaker declared that by the conclusion of 2016, it will introduce a redesigned version of i3 all-electric hatchback with an innovative design, 50% additional battery capability and improved range.
2018 BMW i8 Roadster Redesign
The 2018 BMW i8 spyder will be constructed with the open-top body style with the codename I15. It is reported that the new vehicle will exemplify the future of advanced and emotionally attractive mobility concepts. Just similar to the standard BMW i8, this two-seater roadster combines lightness, dynamic ability and competence with a very special artistic allure.
It is expected that the new BMW i8 spyder 2018 interior will not experience much change in its styling. This means that most of the interior features of the new roadster will be similar to those of the standard BMW i8 coupe. However, the automaker will carry out some aesthetic changes to make the cabin of the vehicle more comfortable and luxurious according to the tastes and expectations of modern day buyers.
However, it is anticipated that many of the interior stylings will make it through to the ultimate production edition, such as the visibly defined humps behind the passenger and the driver.

The new BMW i8 Roadster 2018 is expected to be powered by the same engine, which was used to power the BMW i8 coupe. As a result, it comes equipped with a three-cylinder petrol-operated power unit with the 1.5 liters, which is expected to generate the maximum power of 129 ponies. This powertrain will be attached to a more powerful motor that generates the maximum power of 228 ponies, so the new roadster will get the combined power output of 357 ponies.
The combined mileage offered by the BMW i8 coupe is 76 mpg in the city and on the highway driving by making use of both gas and electric power. The 2018 BMW i8 spyder range covered by the coupe exclusively with battery power is 15 miles and the coupe speeds up from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds with a top velocity of 155 mph. As the new model comes with a more powerful battery set, it is expected that it would cover more distance on the electric power and will be faster than the coupe.
Expected price and date of release
Regrettably, the German automaker has not yet confirmed 2018 BMW i8 spyder release date. BMW mentioned only that the new roadster will be one among the several fresh plug-in hybrid and pure electric models due in the impending years.
