The current Mazda CX-5 (2016 model) was a turning point, with big numbers on the market. 2018 Mazda CX-5 Redesign

While the exact exterior specifications haven’t yet been officially confirmed, this crossover SUV’s prototype was recently spotted testing in Southern California. From its general appearance, it looks much like a cross between the current CX-5, the new CX-9, and the Chinese-only CX-4. The current CX-5 length is 4,555 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm and height of 1,720 mm. Its trunk space should provide like the current model at least 966 L, but when the rear seats have folded this space could reach an amazing 1,830 L. Some of the changes effected on the new 2018 CX-5 SUV in this area are a new front grille that comes with a new “five-point” look. Along with new chrome finish on its slightly changed window look(see photos). Additionally, it spots slender headlights integrated on the grille together with a sporty mesh.

Interior

While the spies who captured images of the new 2018 Mazda CX-5 weren’t able to examine its interior, it was covered, unfortunately. However, from that one picture industry insiders believe it will be generally a crossover of the latest CX-4 and the current CX-5. The 7-inches color touchscreen display of the current model will probably be retained. The Mazda navigation system might probably be upgraded. However, the steering wheel-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls could be the same. In regards to safety features, better equipment could be in the offing in the new CX-5. This includes frontal collision warning, rear cross-traffic alerts along with and rear parking sensors. On the other hand, an adaptive cruise control could be added as optional extras.

Engine

The new 2018 Mazda CX-5 SUV could be powered by a similar engine like that of the current model. Nevertheless, there have been substantiated rumors it could have a new SkyActiv engine for its petrol and diesel trims. If Mazda sticks to the current engine, it will be a 2.0 L naturally aspirated variety providing 115hp and 150 lb-ft worth of torque. If a new engine is used, it could be a 2.5 L inline 4 with an 184 ponies and 185 lb-ft torque rating. When it comes to fuel efficiency, the new model should be at par with the current model. This is up to 26 mpg city and up to 35 mpg highway. Its acceleration should be also at par with the current CX-5 at 0-62 mph. While its top speed will be at 124 mph like the current model. However, if it gets fitted with a new engine all these figures could slightly improve.
