The two displays which constitute the infotainment system and the instrument cluster may be slightly larger than the ones seen in the current model. Also, the buttons between them will be removed to make them appear like one big screen. Sources suggest that Mercedez is working on a gesture-control feature, similar to the one found in new BMW 7-Series launched in 2016. Another important update will be the inclusion of a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons. This feature, which detects swipes in all directions just like a cell phone screen, allows the driver to control the infotainment system using his thumbs. 2018 Mercedes S-Class Changes
The current S-Class’s exterior is flawless, so we don’t think Mercedes will make any significant changes to it, especially to the vehicle’s main frame. Photographs of the test cars clearly show multibeam headlamps and a revised bumper with a redesigned center vent and side intakes. Also, the grille in the front gets a face-lift with three double-horizontal slats instead of the four-slat arrangement that’s found in the current S-Class models. However, the new sedan’s rear portion, including the trunk lid, the tail lights, the chrome trim and the bumper, doesn’t feature major changes.
Many industry experts are predicting that the upcoming S-Class cars can be equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission system. Although there isn’t much information about the engines of the new 2018 Mercedes S-Class. Seems like the Mercedes may retune the current engines to produce extra power, better fuel economy, faster acceleration and better torque. The base S-Class models, namely the S550, S550 4Matic, will feature the same 4.7-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine whereas the S550e will receive a 3.0-liter V6 coupled with an electric motor. The V8 churns out 449 horsepower while the V6 generates 329 horsepower. The most powerful variant in the S-Class, the S600, will get a 6.0 liter V12 that creates a mammoth 625 horses. With that being said, we do not expect the facelifted versions of any of these variants to receive more than 15 additional horses.

The 2018 Mercedes S-Class may be out in the market in April 2017, but this is only a speculation since the German automaker has not yet confirmed a release date.
Though the S-Class has carved a niche for itself, the new line of sedans will face tough competition from the likes of BMW 7 Series , Audi A8, Jaguar XJL, and the Cadillac CT6.
