Soon after its launch in 2010, the Audi A1 began selling like hotcakes across the world. The German automaker is reportedly working on the new generation of the supermini car that became immensely popular thanks to its cutting-edge features and small price tag. The 2018 Audi A1 is expected to be bigger, classier and technologically superior to its 2015 brother.

2018 Audi A1 redesign
The platform of the 2018 A1 is completely new. Audi opted for the MQB platform, the A0, which makes the car bigger and helps it perform better on the road, thanks to the extra 90mm in the base area. It also means the car’s capacity is increased from 270 liters to 300 liters. Speaking of design, the next-gen A1 will sport an evolutionary design, like the recently updated versions of Q7, A4, TT, and the R8 – all of them have sharper lines compared to their predecessors. At the rear, the car is believed to arrive with “dynamic” scrolling indicators much like the A4 hatchback.

New Audi A1 2018 Interior
The interior of the upcoming A1 will feature a thoroughly updated infotainment system, along with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit. We believe that the MMI infotainment system will include a Wi-Fi hotspot for internet connectivity on the go. Thanks to the new MQB platform, there will be enough leg room for rear passengers. In addition to a 6.5-inch color display, there will be a CD player, an AUX-IN connection, an SD card reader and eight speakers. Also, the new Audi A1 2018 will feature a state-of-the-art GPS system.

New Audi A1 2018 convertible
In the 2018 Audi A1 engine department, it is rumored that the upcoming A1 may arrive with a re-engineered version of the 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbo seen on the previous A1. Although this engine can produce nearly 100 bhp, its updated 1.4-liter diesel(TDI) and petrol(TSI) version can deliver anything between 100bhp and 160bhp. Don’t be surprised if Audi launches a hybrid E-Tron variant of the A1, a concept of they unveiled way back in 2012. The A1 E-Tron, which featured a 245cc rotor engine coupled with a 74W electric motor, has already met with positive reviews at the Geneva Motor Show held in 2010, but it will be a more premium car costing way above the basic models.

The new Audi A1 is all set to take on the upcoming versions of the DS3 and the MINI Cooper which will be released in 2018.
The Audi A1 is immensely popular in Europe and we hope the German automaker releases the updated model in the United States as well. With better interiors, additional space, and a stunning design, the upcoming version can raise the bar for supermini hatchback cars. Overall, given Audi’s reputation for building luxury cars with cutting-edge technology, it is interesting to see how the compact A1 fares in the international markets.
