2017 Mazda 6 sedan review

The Mazda 6 is a family sedan, which was introduced in the market in 2002, is a product of the renowned Japanese automobile manufacturer, Mazda. The model was released as a replacement for the 1987 model Mazda Capella. This model was sold with the name, Mazda Atenza in the Japanese and Chinese markets and it is the first modish, intuitive, and lively design idea of Mazda. It was recently redesigned in 2015 as a 2016 model after it was unveiled at the 2015 Motor Show held in Los Angeles. After only one year, Mazda has planned to revamp this model again for the model year 2017 and is going to release it with the name, 2017 Mazda 6.

2017 Mazda 6 Changes, Exterior

The all-new 2017 Mazda 6 is not going to get any notable changes in its external styling considering it was past only one year since the last model. However, there will be a few improvements in its body elements. As a result, the front part of the vehicle will be equipped with a set of brighter headlamps, redesigned with the LED technology, replacing the traditional ones found in the outgoing model. The turn signals in the earlier model have also been restyled to offer the new Mazda 6 a modern look. If we compare the grille in the old model with new ones, they are identical(six-slat both).

For the model year 2017, the lower apron will be featured with mist lights, which are now entrenched with chrome borders that will now assume the shape of a boomerang.
At the back also, the new vehicle does not get significant changes, except the differently restyled tail lamp sets when compared to those of the earlier model. All other external elements, including the bumper and the trunk cover at the back, will remain the same as those of the outgoing model.


The side view of the new Mazda 6 2017 is also exactly similar to that one on the previous model. The new vehicle will also run on the same aluminum alloy wheels with the same diameter of 17 inches with P225/55 R17 all-season tires and 19 inches(Touring and Grand Touring trim), but they will now be finished with a dark color with metallic chips.
Other notable changes are in two new colors, such as Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic, in addition to the existing seven body colors.

The new 2017 Mazda 6 sedan will be constructed with the body length of 191.5 inches, the width of 72.4 inches, and with the height of 57.1 inches. The length of the wheelbase of the vehicle will be 111.4 inches. Curb weight is 3,179 lbs.

This time, the cabin of the 2017 Mazda 6 sedan will be a bit luxurious with a couple of buttons and gadgets more than 2016 model, but all in all almost copy/paste. The automaker has paid more attention to improving the interior features with the intention of transforming it into a powerful contestant to vie competently with its class competitors, such as the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. Furthermore, all the seats in the cabin will be constructed with premium materials and they will be upholstered in high-quality Nappa leather.

This quality sedan will be offered with three different packages, such as a Grand Touring Technology Package, Touring Technology Package, and an Audio Package that provides the vehicle with satellite radio, Bose audio system-11 speakers with the woofer(only standard with GT), and a moon-roof.

All the Grand Touring variants will be offered with multicolored Active Driving Display, including a full-color thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display with the size of 7 inches and latest Mazda Navigation system. Other attractive features that are offered to the new vehicle include lane-keep support, traffic signal identification, and highly developed blind spot monitoring. The automaker offers Mazda Connect infotainment system to all the trim variants, which are the base models of the new vehicle.

To make the new Mazda 6 more attractive than the departing model, the automaker has made further developments, such as improving the door seals, installing noise-lessening materials included in the underbody, back console, doors and in the headliner. This time, the 2017 Mazda 6 comes with a thicker windscreen than that of the outgoing model to chunk the wind sound.

The redesigned 2017 Mazda 6 will be equipped with a powerful engine, which is designed with the GVC or G-Vectoring Control technology. It is the first model in the Mazda vehicle lineup to be designed with this new technology. The major benefit of this expertise is that it offers a comprehensive control over the engine, chassis, transmission, and the entire body. Furthermore, it offers the driver, an accurate control, dipping the necessity for steering modifications.

With all these beneficial features, the new vehicle comes equipped with an SKYACTIV-G DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder petrol engine with the displacement of 2.5 liters. This engine delivers the power of 184 horsepower at 5,700 RPM and the required twist of 185 pounds per foot at 3,250 RPM. The new vehicle will be offered with the six-velocity automatic SKYACTIV-Drive transmission, six-velocity manual SKYACTIV-MT transmission systems(S, T) and six-velocity automatic SKYACTIV-Drive transmission with manual-shift mode(T).


The engine also offers the new model Mazda better acceleration that makes it attain the speed from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds and the maximum velocity of 140 mph.
Regarding fuel economy, the new vehicle that comes equipped with the manual transmission will offer the mileage of 25 mpg when it is driven within the city, 37 mpg on highways and the combined mileage of 29 mpg.
When the vehicle is equipped with the automatic transmission with i-Elop, it offers 28 mpg when it is driven within the city, 40 mpg on highways and the combined mileage of 32 mpg, whereas without i-Elop, it offers 26 mpg, 38 mpg, and 30 mpg in city, highway, and combined mileage respectively. Fuel tank capacity is 16.4 gallons.


Base cost and the date of release

All models of the 2017 Mazda 6 are expected to hit the Mazda dealerships during the last quarter of 2016. When comes to pricing,
The base Sports model with the manual transmission is expected to be sold at $21,945, whereas with the automatic transmission it will be available at $22,995.
The Touring model with the manual transmission is expected to be sold at $24,195, whereas with the automatic transmission it will be available at $25,245.
The Grand Touring model will be sold at an estimated cost of $30,695
