The Mercedes Company is a legendary car manufacturer and their G-Class is one of the most durable models. This model is on the market for almost 40 years and it is very famous. Also known as G-Wagen or Geländewagen, this model was used by Germany’s military forces. That just show us how good off road abilities this 2018 Mercedes G-Class has. Because of all of the above, this vehicle has a status of icons. Now finally, Mercedes announce that we can expect almost complete makeover for 2018 model. That is excellent new for all Mercedes fans and all lovers of off-road drives. Not only the exterior will be redesigned, but we can also expect improvements inside the cabin as well as under the hood. Everything will be different, but most importantly everything will be better and improved compared to the current model. However, we can expect the same boxy design, but the dimensions will be a bit different.
2018 Mercedes G-Class Changes
The exterior design of the upcoming model will keep the same boxy design. However, the dimensions of this model will be a bit different. More precisely, this model will be certainly wider than before and that is very notable when we look at the grille and hood. The newest 2018 Mercedes G-Class is wider for almost 4 inches which are a very good improvement. This model adopts wider body because of new suspension that will be presented. Thanks to the new suspension, this model will have enhanced stability off road and on road, but also better and bigger cabin. On the other hand, the length of this model will be a bit shorter, but the wheelbase will remain the same.

One more important change is the addition of new quality materials in chassis construction. We can definitely expect more aluminum and high-strength steel. Thanks to that fact, this model will have less weight than before, and better fuel consumption. On the other hand, the current model’s 5,665-pound curb weight will be reduced for around 440lb. The front fascia of this model standard G-class, and when we look at the front grille we can definitely see how much wider it is. We can expect chrome materials here, and the large Mercedes logo in the middle. In terms of design, the front fascia will remain classic G-Class front fascia, but everything will be larger. At the sides, this model will ride on quality tires for all season fitted with large aluminum wheels(size unknown).
The interior design of the most recent model will be better than before. The comfort will be improved thanks to the more spacious cabin. However, we don’t have official interior photos, but we have a lot of rumors and reliable speculations. We know that the cabin has more space because of the wider body. Also, a lot of rumors says that the seats will be improved and more adjustable. Just like as before, the leather will be standard upholstery. We can expect it on the seats, on the dash, and on the door trims as well. Despite the fact that we have more interior space, the addition of the third row of seats is unlikely. Some of the standard interior features should be dual zone air condition, updated infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, a lot of safety features and many others as well.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the resulting model will be powered by a few engine options, including diesel and gasoline variants. In the United States, the base powertrain will be a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine(G500). This engine will be capable of delivering up to 416 horsepower and 450 ft.-pf. For Euro market there will be diesel options, turbocharged six-cylinder. The engine will be probably mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and 7-speed automatic for AMG models. Also, the standard drive type will most likely be 4WD. Also, according to Mercedes, the engineers will update the 4WD technology. We can also expect returning of the front and rear differential locks. EPA information is unavailable at this point, but as soon as we receive some official data, we will let you know.

The 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine should stay in the offer for AMG G63, but there are some rumors that this engine will be aborted and instead it will be 4.0-litre turbocharged V8. The strongest engine, turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 should stay for the AMG G65 in the future.
